Abstract

Submitted to the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest.

In 3 Nephi 11:8, the Nephites "saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe." This depiction, set at the site of the modern Kirtland temple, illustrates the Redeemer appearing to the Nephites as the "light of men" (D&C 93:9 and John 1:4).

People find themselves along the paths that lead through the valley to (and from) the temple, but the Spirit of Christ is given directly to every man (person) (Moroni 7:16) regardless of where they are any moment.

The pond in the foreground reflects the light of Christ, just as "all things denote there is a God" (Alma 30:44).

The artist has worked professionally in computer animation but also paints in acrylic and oil to evoke an emotional, human message. He uses landscapes and abstract paintings to depict spiritual messages from the LDS/Christian scriptures and other faith traditions around the world.
