Abstract | Graphite on Paper 8 1⁄2 x 10 3⁄4 in. 1 Nephi, Chapter 8 A remarkably complete compositional study for an unrealized painting of Lehi’s Vision of the Tree of Life. Lehi stands at the top left of the scene with arms spread (see catalogue number 35 for a detailed study of the same figure) as he stands at the base of the Tree of Life. To the left are the figures of Nephi and his wife, holding tightly to the rod of iron (i.e., a symbol for the word of God) while walking towards the tree. Other figures are shown moving towards and away from Lehi, as described in his vision. |
