Precious Stones
The breastplate Aaron wore
covered Urim-and-Thummim secrets
and held signets set in gold,
precious stones for Israel’s house,
jewels the color of creation—
diamond stars, opalescent moons,
topaz suns, and storm-cleared skies
of sapphire, emerald forests,
hummingbird’s ruby throat,
and all earth’s wonders.
One day, the Lord, esteeming
His children sanctified and pure,
will fashion diadems with gems
more precious than all the crowns,
scepters, orbs, and swords
of worldly kings.
Where jeweled temple windows,
beautiful as His promises,
prism light into sacred halls,
across celestial walls,
He seals his peculiar treasure.
