Abstract | A short sword was unearthed in the ancient Philistine city Ekron, which was destroyed in 604 bc and lay twenty-two miles south of Jerusalem. Israel seems to have been initially dependent on the Philistines for metallurgy. In 2003, a seventh-century bc Etruscan gold book was discovered in Bulgaria. Recently, another gold book was found in Iran dating from around the sixth century bc. |
