Purify my lips with fire,
hot as Isaiah’s coal, that I, too,
may testify. Open my mouth.

When offerings of oil and flour,
frankincense-fragrant,
are brought before the Lord,
may I also smell the sweet savor.

When evil, terrible as ancient Syria,
combines to destroy  righteousness,
fill the mountain with horses
and chariots that I can see.

When earth quakes
and whirlwinds tumult the sky,
let me hear the still small voice
whisper again, Jesus is the Christ.

[O]ne of the seraphims . . . having a live coal in his hand
. . . laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.  (Isa. 6:6-7 see also  Lev.2:1, 2 Kgs. 6:17, and 1 Kgs. 19:11-12)
