Abstract

King Benjamin taught the plan of salvation during the coronation of his son Mosiah. Why might Benjamin have included several themes and doctrines from the plan of salvation in his speech at this time? As Stephen D. Ricks noticed, “Many features of this coronation ceremony reflect ancient Israelite culture," including the selection of such themes as resurrection, enthronement, and the sovereignty of God by Benjamin. By recognizing this, readers may better appreciate the ancient background of Book of Mormon teachings.
