Abstract | Latter-day Saints are familiar with the story recounted in the Pearl of Great Price of Martin Harris visiting with the scholar Charles Anthon. There is, however, much more to this account than what is recorded in this canonized history. Harris is known to have visited at least two other scholars whom he consulted with about the characters taken from the Book of Mormon plates. While some of the details of these visits are not fully known, these three "wise men" together inspired Martin Harris enough to convince him that Joseph Smith was telling the truth. |
