Abstract

The Lord promised Nephi that he would become a ruler and a teacher over his brethren, and Nephi was eventually made king. Many people from the Old Testament were given similar promises by the Lord. As in Nephi’s account, the fulfillment of those promises is clearly demonstrated in the scriptures. Jacob, for example, was elevated over his younger brother Esau, a prophecy which came true years later. David, the fourth-born son, was promised kingship, and was eventually declared King. Joseph, one of Jacob’s youngest sons, was shown in dreams that his family members would eventually bow down before him, which eventually came to pass.
