Abstract | In the first chapter of the Book of Mormon, Nephi stated that after he made an abridgment of his father’s record, he would give an account of His own life. Several lines of textual evidence suggest that this division takes place between 1 Nephi 9 and 10, and that Nephi carefully developed chapters 1–9 and 10–22 as separate but related textual units. By studying the relationships between these units, readers can better grasp some of Nephi’s main purposes for writing 1 Nephi. |
