Abstract

The Book of Mormon shows how the Israelites’ deliverance from Egypt foreshadows our own deliverance from sin and death through Christ’s Atonement. The first and last verses of the Alma 36 are similar to the account of the Exodus from Egypt in Deuteronomy. In addition, the second and third verses, as well as verses 27–29 depict the Exodus as proof of God’s power to deliver. Yet the core of the chapter discusses Alma’s deliverance from sin, emphasizing the similarities between Alma’s journey out of his sinful life and the Hebrews’ journey out of Egypt.
