Abstract

In the spirit of love and concern, Alma taught Corianton that “wickedness never was happiness.” To better explain why this has always been true, Alma used a chiasm to show that sin unavoidably results in bitter consequences and spiritual captivity. Like Corianton, many people today are confused about the unchanging nature of God’s eternal laws. Some believe that there are no absolute moral laws. Others imagine that God will tolerate any misconduct because of His infinite and eternal love. The truth, however, is that only faith, repentance, and obedience to God’s commandments can activate the cleansing and redeeming power of Christ’s infinite Atonement.
