Abstract

Alma taught the people in the Zarehemla that they must receive and engrave God's image on their countenances. In doing so, he may have been drawing on concepts associated with deity impersonation in ancient America--where a ruler would wear an engraved mask of a god and thus take on their "image." Alma sought to teach was it truly means to receive the image of the true God engraven upon one's countenance through the transforming power of Christ.
