Abstract | The early saints conceived of the physical and spiritual elements of the gathering of Israel as being connected. Joseph may have begun to understand the connection between the spiritual and physical gathering through the Book of Mormon. The house of Israel was scattered physically on a few occasions. The Book of Mormon makes it clear that scattered Israel would be gathered physically, as the early saints gathered to certain places. However, the Book of Mormon also speaks of the gathering of Israel in spiritual terms. The Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants show that the spiritual gathering is taking place right now, and all who wish can participate. |
