Abstract | The first general conference was only two months after the Church was established. Conferences were a regular part of American religious life, and no doubt this culture influenced early Latter-day Saint conferences. Yet the Book of Mormon may provide more ancient precedents, such as when Jacob, Benjamin, and Alma preached to multitudes gathered at the temple. Following Book of Mormon examples, conference weekend is a time to remember, reflect, and recommit to covenants, spend time with family, and serve others. |
