Abstract | In 3 Nephi 5, Mormon digressed into a commentary about record keeping and then surprisingly introduced himself. Because it’s likely that he had already introduced himself in the 116 pages which Martin Harris lost, readers may naturally wonder why Mormon would again disclose his identity so late in the text. However, when considering that he was about to report the climactic scenes of Christ’s resurrected ministry among his people, Mormon’s emphasis on the historical accuracy of the record and on his qualifications as faithful record keeper, makes more sense. |
