Abstract

Ammon’s words of rejoicing, praising, and exulting God’s power in Alma 26 borrow much material from earlier sources. He used phrases from the scriptures and earlier Nephite leaders, his praises are reminiscent of the biblical psalms, and he even quoted from or paraphrased the words of Jacob, King Benjamin, and his friend, Alma the Younger. As a prince, Ammon would have been instructed in the words of the holy scriptures, which were kept and maintained by his family, as well as the words of all of the Nephite prophets and kings. Ammon stood firmly in the traditions of the faithful Nephites and was well prepared to be an instrument in God’s hands.
