Abstract

Commanded to continue his journey through the wilderness of the Arabian Peninsula, Lehi found "a round ball of curious workmanship," enclosing two spindles (1 Nephi 16:10). One spindle was understood to indicate the direction in which he should travel.

In the background, Nephi, dressed in blue, returns from the hunt with his bow. As the subject of this series of paintings, Nephi is included in all the paintings, even if he is not he central character in a particular scene.
