Abstract | Submitted to the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest. A moment in Emma Smith's life as she maintained a home for her children, which no doubt included sewing, and sometimes catching a moment of solitude. There is so much to admire and respect in the life of this "elect lady" going about doing good continually. The artist is best known for her ability to capture the spectacular and whimsical world of a child's imagination, depicting them in dream-like themes that are dramatically charged with bold and vibrant colors, yet the grown-up side of her is deeply rooted in her faith and family. She studies art. She studies people. She then combines these two interests to paint not just a portrait of a person, but to give you a glimpse of their individual story. "I think portraits are boring. I want my paintings to reflect a moment in an individual's life, representing who that person is, not just what they look like." |
