Abstract	The frightening vision which Brother William W. Phelps had was near McIlwaine's bend, which has disappeared. Max Parkin says that the bend was near present-day Miami, MO, about 100 miles from Independence.

This interpretive graphic shows the course of the Missouri River (light color) before man-made and nature's changes altered the river's course. The double, darker blue lines show the present course. The panel is located in the Steamship Arabia museum in Kansas City, MO (2007). Viewing the original course, one can better speculate where McIlwaine's Bend might have been.
