Abstract | Honorable Mention in the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest. The scripture that inspired this set of paintings is found in Matt 25:2: “And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.” I think the parable of the bridegroom and the ten virgins is timeless. The clothes and styles of the virgins belong to no certain era because a parable can be applied to any era. The virgins have no certain geographic origin or race since the story pertains to all of God’s children. I am trying to convey the message that no matter who you are or where you are from, you can be found approaching Christ. Being wise or foolish is a choice we all make for ourselves. The wise virgins are shown in warm light symbolizing the warmth of Christ's love. The foolish virgins are shown in cool light, demonstrating how cold life is without Christ in it. In the parable the bridegroom told the foolish virgins, "... I know you not” (verse 12). We must be wise and, “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh" (verse 13). I grew up in a small town in Idaho. I then attended school at Brigham Young University Idaho and married the love of my life, and we now have a son who is my precious little baby angel muffin. I graduated with my BFA emphasis in painting. I absolutely loved learning from the art masters at the university. Now I am an after "bedtime" painter. Being a mother is my full-time job--that I freaking love--but making art is something I am super passionate about and can't ever stop doing. |
