Abstract | Honorable Mention in the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest. This beautiful little girl turned 8 and chose to be baptized. I was asked to paint her in a wheat field to represent her maternal grandfather, who was a farmer, and whom she never had the privilege of meeting. The wheat is white because when we choose to take upon us the name of Christ, it is now our responsibility to share the gospel with others, through word and deed. I painted a rainbow to represent baptism and a sky that looks like a storm is breaking. I wanted that to represent the storms of life. They will always come, it's an inevitability, but being baptized and joining Zion will help defend against them. If we build upon the rock of Christ, have faith, pray, and trust in the Lord, everything will turn out. The artist has loved art for as long as she can remember. She was constantly painting, crafting, or drawing as a child; so much so that she was dubbed "the tape queen" by her relatives. She continued to cultivate her talents with the encouragement of her family. Right before her grandpa died, he told her, “Never give up your art," because he believed in her. At a time when she was struggling, she was encouraged by the Spirit through the scriptures to paint. All she wants is to help others feel the Spirit through her art. |
