Jacob Scott

D&C 52:28

Jacob Scott entered baptismal waters and was present at the fourth general conference of the Church held on June 3–6, 1831, at the schoolhouse on Isaac Morley’s farm in Kirtland. At the conference he was ordained a high priest by the Prophet Joseph Smith.[1]

On June 7, 1831, Jacob was called by revelation to journey to Missouri: “Let my servants Edson Fuller and Jacob Scott also take their journey” (D&C 52:28). According to George A. Smith, “It was only a short time after the return from this mission, that Ezra Booth apostatized as did Jacob Scott. The spirit of apostasy was little known, but when these men apostatized they became more violent, more cruel, and manifested a greater spirit of persecution than any other enemies.”[2] George A. Smith linked their apostasy to the tar and feathering of the Prophet Joseph Smith in Hiram, Ohio.
