Abstract | In the verses leading up to Alma 20:20, Lamoni's father, the king of the Lamanites, is shocked and disappointed in his son's choices to support the Nephites, and grows so uncontrollably angry that he intends and attempts to strike and perhaps kill his son. After attempting to peacefully dissuade the king of his intent, Ammon uses his sword to defend Lamoni, his new brother in the gospel, from the king. His protective act begins a chain reaction of perspectives being shifted, leading to many Lamanites converting to the gospel. Ammon's strength and faith in the goodness of people are tender and inspiring to me, and I am encouraged by his actions to defend with love.
