Abstract

Jacob’s unique style as a poet-prophet demonstrates his “empathy for suffering” and “sensitivity to the challenges that women face.” With sorrow and afflictions in his youth and his observance of sin in his own family, Jacob stresses the need for humility, denounces sin, and focuses on Israel’s destiny. Jacob’s writings show his “deep, personal witness of the suffering and sacrifice of the Savior” and of the Atonement.
