Abstract | As he prophesied to the priests of Noah concerning their downfall if they didn't repent, Abinadi "stretched forth his hand." In so doing this Abinadi linked himself to Moses, who stretched out his hands over the parted Red Sea as a sign of divine power. In addition to signaling the presence of divine power, Abinadi stretching forth his hand increased the urgency of his message. Understanding the textual descriptions of gestures or actions in turn helps readers better appreciate the Book of Mormon's narratives. |
