Abstract | The details about olive cultivation in Jacob 5 are consistent with what is known from botany and ancient practice. Specifically, the practice of grafting branches from one tree to another is a known practice that most successfully propagates olives. While it was uncommon to graft in the branches of a wild olive tree into a tame tree, as we see in Jacob 5:7–10, under certain circumstances it could be done and have positive effects. Understanding the botanical principles behind this teaches about the great lengths the Lord will go to in order to save His children. |
