Abstract | Jacob's sermon recorded in 2 Nephi 6–10 contains many elements that link it with ancient Israelite autumn festivals such as the Feast of Tabernacles. These elements include the creation, holy garments, the name of God, sacrifice, fasting, God’s judgment, and the remembrance of God’s covenant. Likewise, Jacob's sermon includes details that seem to indicate it is a part of a covenant renewal ceremony, an ancient phenomenon that sometimes overlapped with Israelite autumn festivals. All together, these elements link the Book of Mormon with the Old Testament and the world of ancient Israel. |
